If anyone thinks that life goes step by step in a certain order, in stages such as youth,
maturity, old age, they are profoundly mistaken.
Several years ago, during a stay in Croatia, I lived simultaneously a part of my childhood, which I had in fact experienced in Odessa, and a part of my life in high youth, as Olinka calls it. I’ve captured the latter in my paintings, as an old man’s memory of his youth. As I had not experienced anything like that when I was young, let me correct this and say: I’ve painted a young man’s memory of how he will live his old age. Something like a nostalgia for old age. At the warm seaside, without any worries about clothes, heating the house, food and money. Naked in front of an easel, with occasional glimpses of a woman who is still beautiful and desirable.
